As a Council Member of IPRM (Institute of Public Relations Malaysia), I had the opportunity to attend an engagement program organized by TARUMT IPRMSA (Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology, IPRMSA Chapter). The event served as a platform to introduce IPRM’s accreditation program to the PR lecturers and to share insights with students on what it takes to excel in the ever-evolving field of public relations.
IPRM President, Jaffri Amin, and Vice President & Accreditation Director, Doris Lim led the session. Together, we presented the details of IPRM’s accreditation program to the lecturers, highlighting its importance in setting a benchmark for PR practice in Malaysia. The session allowed us to clarify key aspects of the accreditation process and how the lecturers can apply what they have done to meet the requirements for accreditation. Their positive response and agreement on the need to elevate the PR profession through such a program were both encouraging and affirming.
The second half of the day was dedicated to a lively sharing session with the PR students, who filled the room with energy and curiosity. We discussed the core competencies required in PR, the ethical considerations that underpin the profession, and the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in a dynamic industry. The students’ enthusiasm was profound, and it was heartening to see their strong interest in pursuing a career in public relations. Their questions reflected not only a desire to understand the profession better but also a commitment to contributing to its future.
This engagement with TARUMT was a valuable opportunity for IPRM to connect with the next generation of PR professionals and to reinforce the importance of high standards in PR practice and education.
We left TARUMT with a renewed sense of purpose and a stronger partnership with their PR program. As we continue to advocate for the growth and development of the PR profession in Malaysia, we remain committed to working closely with educational institutions to ensure that the future of PR is in capable and professional hands.
